My thoughts on the first debate.

So, the first Presidential Debate happened last night, and by any account Kerry came out on top. Even the nuttiest of the right-wing blogs were conceding that Bush didn't really defend himself and didn't present himself well. There were a few great quotables, but you can read those anywhere.
"Tell us how you really feel, Unca Mango! Preferably in free verse."
So how does it feel
you son of a bitch?
No teleprompters
No handlers
No scripts
No one to save your petulant fratboy ass
from the ravages of facts on the ground.
How does it feel
to know that it's just you,
your opponent,
and fifty million of your closest friends
but no one close enough
to put that hand up your ass
and move your mouth?
How does it feel
to get waffle-stomped
by someone who can refute
your lies, misquotes, and untruths
within thrity seconds
of their existence,
where no one can save you,
restate you,
explain you?
Live without a net,
and you fell.
You were handed the ball,
and you fumbled.
You were certain, and resolute, and solemn,
and wrong.
How does it feel?
Only you know.
But from here,
it was nice to know
that I could sleep
knowing that for one night
the good guys
had finally won.

In the final analysis, I'm a fiscal conservative and a social progressive. Bush has failed on both counts. Even if Kerry isn't all the much better, a change of management is necessary.

Did you notice that it took him about ten seconds after each question was asked before he even tried to answer it?
Yeah, you know what I'm talking about.
