Certain actions taken yesterday by a former employer got me to do a bit of creative writing.

Come in.
Sit down.
Don't worry. You're not in any danger.
You figured out how to ask, and so we'll answer.
We're not worried; no one is going to believe you anyway.

We knew what was going to happen about three days before the living did.

The dead have always had a knack for that, you know. We can sense it coming as easily as you can breathe. There's always room for more, and while we lament the newcomers at first, there's a certain ironic gladness to the swelling of our ranks, if only to say that in the end we were right. Rest assured that that small victory is exactly as ashen as you think it is.

As always, there are a few living ones who are sensitive enough to see exactly when they (and other unfortunate bystanders) will meet their demise, but per usual, those who dance are deemed mad by those who can't or won't hear the music. Considering that the music is that of the scythe, we can't truly blame the willfully ignorant.

So who do we blame? Well, "blame" is not exactly the word that we'd use. In some ways, we brought this upon ourself. Who can foresee the carnage that happens through a thousand missteps, large and small? Indeed, it's all plainly visible in hindsight, but by then you've joined us.

But leave no doubt that we knew.

As always, feedback/critique is appreciated.

Works for me, actually, and I think it sums stuff up quite nicely.

Nice! I read it without acquiring context, and it works on its own terms.
