I practiced flute earlier this morning. The first time I've practiced in several days. A piece that was incredibly difficult the last time I played was simple, almost simplistic this time. All in all it makes sense. Having one's subconscious percolate on something for a while usually helps, I just didn't think that worked with skills that have a physical component. I'm not complaining, though

Another thing I observed is that I had finally made the conceptual leap from note->translation-to-letter->fingering to note->fingering. This is a basic music skill that has evaded me for years, and one of the primary reasons I gave up on several instruments (i.e. clarinet, guitar, and piano). I was worried for quite some time that I lacked a certain something, thus preventing me from playing a musical instrument. I'm relieved that that's not the case.

In addition, I played something that I heard somewhere else, but didn't have in written form. The choice of song was A Boy And His Frog by Tom Smith. I managed to make it through without breaking down, but I think that's because I wasn't thinking much of the lyrics, only the tune. If you are not familiar with the song, read the lyrics, and I think you'll understand. I still get sniffly when I listen to it.

Time to get the day on the move.

Wolf is going to sing "A Boy and His Frog" at the Arisia Pegasus Winners concert, in a Kermit voice. I'm going to do some flute noodling in the background, hopefully without breaking down (I'm going to have to studiously ignore the lyrics, I think). Ayesha says she's going to hand out tissues.

Tom is supposed to be releasing a book of his original songs with sheet music, but in the meantime, the music to that is in The Pegasus Winners Vol. 1 which is available either direct from MASSFILC or from various filk dealers.
