Overheard quote: "Chuck isn't going to get laid until he has three kids."
Dream snippet: Walking to a physics class (I believe Optics) at the beginning, having to leave 5 minutes into the class in order to run some Very Important Errands, getting back an hour later, just as the class was ending, only to find that we were just assigned a mammoth homework assignment, I had to do some serious catchup, and the only person who could explain what happened in class was speaking in tongues.
Dream observation: The only difference between the dream and reality (oh so long ago) is that I believe the physics class in question was E&M.
Myself and another fellow just got accepted to do a presentation at NANOG (aka "a bunch of angry fat bearded men who run the Internet (except for the ones that aren't)"). Since a great deal of the reward of being a geek is being acknowledged as smart by smart people, this makes me very happy.
I want a house. Someplace to which I hold title. My toy. This doesn't really reflect on my current living situation, which is actually quite good, but I really want my own place. I want it to be at least as close to the city as I am right now, and I want it to be big enough for me and my sweetie to live in, and have the rooms we want/need to keep our lives organized. I also freely acknowledge that I'm a demanding sort of fellow, and that in the not-so-inflated-anymore-but-still-not-great Boston housing market, this is going to take a lot of money.
Observation: Thinking about housing prices (and saving for said down payment) in terms of "kilobucks" puts things in a little more perspective, and in some small way, makes it psychologically easier for me to save for the goal.
Rant: I'd write more, but in about ten minutes, LJ will get bogged down enough to become unusable for any more than the most cursory of surfing. Yet still I post. Weird.
There has to be a clever polysyllabic word for "wanting to add someone to your livejournal friends list, but they tend to do about 6-7 single-sentence postings per day, and you don't want it cluttering up the friends view, but this isn't a knock on them or anything like that, it's just less convenient for you."

Date: 2002-01-08 07:05 am (UTC)Due to rent worries and such I'm toying with the idea of moving to a lower-cost-of-living area, but the problem is (a) I don't know what city I'd actually like to live in that's les expensive than Boston and (b) salaries tend to be lower in such areas too.
