Aug. 23rd, 2003 10:28 amI'm currently sitting on a couch at
xeger's place in Palo Alto, enjoying the weather, hanging out, and just getting out of Boston for a bit. I also managed to go to a party list night, where, along with many scintillating conversations, there was....
wait for it....
A WORKING ADDAMS FAMILY PINBALL MACHINE!!!! W0000000!!!!!!!
(okay. done now. sorry about that.)
Note: American Airlies really has more room throughout coach, as advertised. As in, "enough to fit an open laptop and me, with no contortions". I expect they'll be getting a bit more business from me in the future.
I now have a new definition for "futile", that being "walking slowly through every aisle of Fry's Electronics in Palo Alto, with the presumption that I was just going to look around and not actually buy anything."
That didn't work. Fortunately, I was limited by the constraint that whatever I bought would have to fit in my backpack, as that's all the baggage I brought out here. Given the one-hour check-in line at Logan for people who had to check bags, I'm pretty sure I made the right decision. I managed to escape buying only a DVD, a CD, and two doohickeys. Not bad. One pilgrimage done, one to go.
Would someone please explain to me why Fry's hasn't opened a store in the Boston area yet? Hell, even the Swedish purveyor of flat-pack furniture is thinking of opening two stores in the Boston area. They're breaking ground on a store in Avon in October, and the Somerville one has permits, but it currently being blocked by a bunch of no-longer-relevant obstructionist weenies, but that's a rant for another day.
Okay. Enough rambling.

Date: 2003-08-24 08:38 am (UTC)The reality of the situation is that it's likely a supply-chain thing. They can keep shipping low by not having to truck stuff across the great divide, especially considering how much imported stuff they sell that comes in through the west coast ports.
