I'm currently sitting on a couch at [livejournal.com profile] xeger's place in Palo Alto, enjoying the weather, hanging out, and just getting out of Boston for a bit. I also managed to go to a party list night, where, along with many scintillating conversations, there was....

wait for it....

A WORKING ADDAMS FAMILY PINBALL MACHINE!!!! W0000000!!!!!!!

(okay. done now. sorry about that.)

Note: American Airlies really has more room throughout coach, as advertised. As in, "enough to fit an open laptop and me, with no contortions". I expect they'll be getting a bit more business from me in the future.

I now have a new definition for "futile", that being "walking slowly through every aisle of Fry's Electronics in Palo Alto, with the presumption that I was just going to look around and not actually buy anything."

That didn't work. Fortunately, I was limited by the constraint that whatever I bought would have to fit in my backpack, as that's all the baggage I brought out here. Given the one-hour check-in line at Logan for people who had to check bags, I'm pretty sure I made the right decision. I managed to escape buying only a DVD, a CD, and two doohickeys. Not bad. One pilgrimage done, one to go.

Would someone please explain to me why Fry's hasn't opened a store in the Boston area yet? Hell, even the Swedish purveyor of flat-pack furniture is thinking of opening two stores in the Boston area. They're breaking ground on a store in Avon in October, and the Somerville one has permits, but it currently being blocked by a bunch of no-longer-relevant obstructionist weenies, but that's a rant for another day.

Okay. Enough rambling.

...of course we could take a trip down to Weird Stuff, or Action (although I suspect that they're closed today).

Frys isn't found anywhere much east of the great divide.

American Airlines really is more comfortable. I love it when buying a cheap ticket ends me up on their birds.

As far as Ikea in MA goes, after 8 years of rumors I'll believe it when I see it. I'll still be going to Elizabeth NJ for my kitchen cabinets.

Fortunately, there's one in Paramus also. Now when I visit my folks, I can get out of driving to Elizabeth, and only drive for 10 minutes to get to an IKEA.

the last ikea rumor i heard, was that after they bribed er donated millions to somerville they found out the property they were after was somehow really belonging to the next town over when it was resurveyed or something and they're stalled over THAT. oiy.

they should just get it over with, and build in salem/nh. no tax, easy access for everyone.

Addams Family pinball...ah, I remember playing that thing...really easy to play for a loooong time, and rack up huge scores. Be careful hitting the tombstone, if you do it wrong the ball goes straight down the center!

yeah AA really does have more room in their whole fleet. i've been taking AA whenever feasible for several years now for just that reason.

as for fry's... they're opening a store in seattle soon, and they've got on in vegas. i think it would be a big stretch to get them out here, tho.

mmmmm. pinball machine.

They're removing the extra space in all their planes to increase revenue, sorry to say. (Saw it in the WSJ last week.)
