Poker Observation: There's something deeply gratifying about paying for a two-handset cordless phone system with the money you received from some guy who didn't believe that one of your two cards was a Jack. (J2o vs. AK with xxJxx on the board)

Right you are. It was a big-blind special, and he decided to slowplay. Flop (xxJ) was checked around, and I figured he wouldn't have slowplayed a pocket pair (judging from previous play). Turn was a rag, I bet out big, he called. River was ragged as well, went all in with the rest of my stack, and he called again. He was... disgusted.

That's because there's less to understand about poker.
Bridge still has a certain appeal, but it is very rare that I can find 3 other people who:

a) play bridge
-and-
b) do not claim 7 tricks at the end, and clear all the cards off the table before the Known Novice (i.e. me) can ask them to play it through, or at least explain it.

I hold out hope, though.

I felt the same way the time I went. Granted, I don't gamble and my one and only time in Vegas was two week's before my defense. I'm still not certain why my idiot advisor made me present at that conference.
