Harper's: My trip to Vegas, by the numbers.
Length of stay in Vegas, in days: 5
Length of stay that was in excess of my (now known) tolerance for Vegas, in days: 3.5
Casinos visited: 6
Casinos where my money was put at stake: 2
Poker tournaments entered: 3
Poker tournaments where I ended up "in the money": 0
Number of places I was from the money in the $60 Mandalay Bay tourney: 1
Hours of No-Limit Texas Hold'Em played: a bunch
Average hourly earning rate while playing No-Limit Texas Hold'Em: greater than $0.
Casino buffets I never want to see again: 1
Alcoholic drinks imbibed: 2
Milkshakes consumed: 2
Numnber of consecutive days spent entirely inside the Luxor/Mandalay Bay casino complex: 4
Number of days after trip with residual cough from continual low-level secondhand smoke: 5
Number of times I was mistaken for a local who just went "off-shift": 2
Longest distance travelled from The Strip, in miles: 7
Distance travelled from The Strip to find good and reasonably-priced sushi, in miles: 7
Number of waking hours spent in public space where there weren't slot machines in within earshot: 11
Hours spent shlepping on the INTEROP conference floor: 10
Hours spent talking to CEOs: 2
T-shirts obtained: 4
Little promotional gadgets obtained: Um.... more than two.
Number of times I volunteered to help run the network at the next INTEROP conference: 1

Date: 2005-05-13 08:46 pm (UTC)I still think it's one of the coolest jobs. Just think.... creating a network that spans a major convention center ex nihilo, keeping it running for 5 solid days of serious use with all sorts of different equipment attached, and then tearing it down.
That is, for lack of a better term, teh r0x0r.
