It's picture time!

Pictures from the Booty Vortex concert this past Saturday are up at http://mangosteen.smugmug.com/gallery/682216
I got a lot of "useable" shots out of this. More than I actually expected to get.

Caveats:
1. These JPEGs are at high(er) compression than I like, but the camera spits out one with each uncompressed shot I take, so I don't have to run everything through Photochop, just to get something viewable.
2. None of these have gone through any post-processing, including color correction.

As always, feedback and comments are appreciated.

-Hmph. I'm noticing a distinct absence of an actual vortex of booty.

There are times and places when I suspect being buffeted by butts would be an excellent thing.

I also suspect that a funk show is not one of those places.

  1. Microphone stands and music stands are not your friends. They make for great sound, but lousy visuals. The occasional shot with such obstructions is probably desirable, but you need many more without them so that these are the exceptions.
  2. Musicians sometimes have lousy posture, don't they?
  3. The lighting seemed to have been against the notion of a full-stage shot. In general, you'd like one good one of those so that the single-person shots have a context.
  4. Speaking of lighting and wide shots, I have no proof that there was an audience at this event.
  5. Hey, all of the preceding were negative! That's not how I feel overall about the shots at all! Many successfully captured a fun time being had by the subject.

Wow, those came out great! I love 7, 9, 13, & 40 for the poses, colors, etc. The lighting and colored screen background worked quite well there! Or at least you were able to make them work.

The colors and lighting in general are great.

Nice Shots.

I actually like the way some of the color-"distorted" shots come out. The color of #3 is what makes it work, for example.

The light just hums with #10.

and how do you like smugmug? I've been considering trying them out, after two years of "oh and I'll set up a linux box to do that."
